My Thanksgiving was a lot of fun. I went to Vicksburg, Mississippi to see my Mom's side of the family. At first I did not want to go, but I'm glad I did. It was a really fun time. I have 2 little cousins, 7 and 4 years old, they sound like a pain, but are really fun to play and hang out with. My family are big Mississippi State fans, so we watched the football game of them playing Ole Miss. Although the lost, it was still a goo game.      There was so much food on the tables, I had no clue where to start. There is always one dish that only one person likes, and I was that one person in my family. I got cranberry sauce on my turkey, and my whole family was looking at me like i was crazy. I had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

LOTF Thesis Post

"Jack made a rush and stabbed at Ralph's chest with his spear. Ralph sensed the position of the weapon from the glimpse he caught of Jack's arm and put the thrust aside with his own butt. Then he brought the end round and caught Jack a stinger across the are. They were chest to chest, breathing fiercely, pushing and glaring."      All throughout the book the characters have been losing there sanity. The author shows Jack going a little crazy at the very beginning of the book when he misses the pig. This paragraph shows that jack has fully gone insane. He is so crazy he is willing to kill a kid for the rule of the island. This shows the effects of human nature and what it can do to anybody.

Landry- Symbolism Austin- LOTF Response

LOTF Response

"The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee; the conch exploded into a thousand white fragments and ceased to exist. Piggy, saying nothing, with no time for even a grunt, traveled through the air sideways from the rock, turning over as he went. The rock bounded twice and was lost in the forest. Piggy fell forty feet and landed on his back across the square red rock in the sea." (page 181) In this passage Piggy dies and so does the conch. This is a very symbolic passage in the book. The symbolism for the conch is civilization and order. When the conch breaks up into a million pieces and disappears that means that civilization and order is gone and no more of that. However, Piggy is symbolism for knowledge and intelligence. So, when Piggy dies all of the brains is gone from the characters, there is no more intelligence.

Symbolism

It was a rainy summer night. Tommy just accidentally stepped in a puddle on his way in to his house. He hurried in to clean off his shoes. He had never gotten them dirty, wet, or ripped. Even though he's been through so many things in his life time they still fit from when his grandfather gave them to him when he was 12 years old.      He had been through deaths, bad grades, punishments, wars, and many storms. His mom walked and asked him "Tommy why in the world do you still care for those shoes? They are so old." Tommy replied "Mom you know papa gave these to me right before he passed, I want to keep these as good as new." Tommy's mom answered with "Oh yeah I'm sorry baby I forgot, that is very sentimental of you to care for them still." Tommy said "it's ok i just know papa is always watching me and taking care of me so I'm always gonna take care of him." Tommy could not be more grateful for these shoes.      In this story

Vocabulary Post

This Saturday was very eventful. On Saturday, I had to wake up early to go to football. Football was not fun sense the coaches were mad that we lost the game. After football I went home and accidentally fell asleep for a while. When I woke up there were many texts saying come to Dylan's, so I went to Dylan's. We watched the LSU vs Alabama game, and swam. When I jumped into Dylan's pool I went so high I flailed my arms, and hit the water.      After we got out of the pool we were all sitting outside, and watching the LSU football game. It was a good game on both sides of the ball. Although, LSU lost they still played good. When I was getting up to go to the bathroom outside of Dylan's I accidentally bumped into a table , and broke it. Dylan was not happy, and made me clean up the mess. I had a interesting Saturday.

Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies has been a very good read so far. It really makes me think about humans. Would all humans act this way, or are they going crazy because they do not know what's going on? To be honest, I do not even know how I would react in this scenario. I hope I would react good, and not go crazy. I think I would actually grasps what's going on around me, and use some common sense that there is not beastie.      Piggy to me is the only sane person in the book. Some people would say that Ralph is also sane, but I think he is quite crazy. The longer they stay there, the more they argue, and the worst it gets. Ralph and Jack are going to reach breaking point, and end up fighting each other I think. As long as they have good shelter and enough food and water the be able to survive until they get rescued. However, they do not have either of those, they need to make stable shelters with branches and trunks, and they need to hunt more.

Human Nature

I think humans are flawed. Not one person is the best, everybody has done something they are not supposed to. Sure there are some people there better than others, but if you go down to people them selfs they are all similar. People can always get better though.      I believe everybody messes up sometimes. That is why i believe in second chances. Since everybody messes up, everybody should have second chances. Human nature is a strange thing to think about. Every

Whats the Difference between St. Luke's and Episcopal's School Day?

The school day's in Episcopal and St. Luke's are completely different. I like Episcopal's day way better. It's a lot more free, and not as repetitive. At St. Luke's everyday would be the same. We did not change classes everyday. I like that a lot more than the same class at the same time everyday. We are also way more free. At St. Luke's you had to be in a certain spot at a certain time. If you weren't you could get in trouble. Unlike at Episcopal, you can go anywhere at tutorial, or break.

Dylan- Fall Break  Austin- Short Story Free Post

Harrison Bergeron

We had to read a short story named Harrison Bergeron I really liked it. It was based in a dystopian society. It was also set way in the future, and really makes you think. What if this really happens in the future? I don't know about you, but I do not want the government controlling me my whole life. The climax in the story is literally rising action, they are going to the ceiling, and the falling action is literally him falling in the air. I think that s unique. I liked this short story.

My Fall Break

I did not do much this fall break. On Wednesday night I went to my friends house and hung out with them, nothing that interesting. On Thursday we had a football game. We had to be at school for 3 in the afternoon. When we got there we went to piccadilly like we normally do before games. Then it was game time, and everybody was pumped for it. We beat Christian Life 56-12. Even though it was varsity I still got to play. That night I went home with my friends, and hung out. Friday I did not do much, just chilled with my family. Saturday i stayed home to watch the LSU football game against Florida. It was a very good game, LSU ended up winning by 1 point. On Sunday I had a lot of homework, so i did that all day. I had a good fall break.

Anna Katherine- Flash Short Story Dylan- Flash Short Story

Flash Story

One day 2 boys, Dan and Mike, were walking around in Indiana at night. "Nothing really happens in this state" said Mike. "I agree" responded Dan. So, they went to a bad part of town, and when they got there they said "I bet something will happen tonight." And they were not wrong. When they got there they found a interesting guy to talk to. So, they started talking to this man, and he offered them drugs. Mike and Dan wanted a fun time. so they took them, and used them. Once they were under the influenced, they thought nothing could stop them. They were wrong. Mike and Dan jumped off a peer into the water, and both hit a ground as soon as they hit the water. Mike died from the impact, and Dan survived with only 2 broken legs. Dan lived his whole life with a traumatized memory.

Harrison Bergeron Response

Harrison Bergeron is a very unique short story. The setting is a big factor the story. If it was not a dystopian society, it would not be as unique. The story brings really makes you think, what if we are living that right now? It makes you think about life a lot. This story really left me confused, and a bit creeped out.

Austin- Personal Narrative Update  Cade- Personal Narrative

Reading Reponse

Writing my personal narrative for english class has really helped me become a better writer. It has taught me the proper way to format a heading, and paragraphs. It also helped me tell a story from 2nd persons view, I have never one that before util now. The book I'm reading outside of class is very good and interesting. I only read books that are interesting, I can never get into a book that is boring.

Dialogue

"How are you doing Mr. Rodger." said Mrs. Tammy "Fine" said Mr. Rodger with a scowl on his face. "I noticed you parked in my yard, care to explain" exclaimed Mrs. Tammy "Oh my bad I did not notice" sarcastically stated Mr. Rodger. "Well you should really pay attention next time" said Mrs. Tammy "I said I was sorry" said Mr. Rodger. "When are you going to stop acting like a 2 year old" said Mrs. Tammy "Whenever you apologize for killing my flowers" said angrily Mr. Rodger. Mrs. Tammy did not kill his flowers, but he thinks she did, "For the last time I did not kill them." "Whatever this conversation is over" exclaimed Mr. Rodger "Fine then, goodbye" stated Mrs. Tammy

Dylan- Dear___Year Old Martha: The Treatment by Suzanna Young

Mint Snowball

Mint Snowball is written by Naomi Shihab Nye. Mint Snowball has a very interesting first paragraph, it is all written in sentence fragments. In the first part of the story she tells us how lovely this snowball is, but at the end she tells us that this could be her meaning to life and is sad that she might never find it.      The mood change is defined by a significant space in between paragraphs 3 and 4. This narrative uses a great choice of words. The choice of word helps shape the voice of the story, and the voice of the story shows the reader a mood. This story has a clear voice throughout the story. If I was the person without the snowball, I would try to recreate it somehow and make it better.

Dear 10 Year-Old

Dear 10 year old, listen to your parents. I know they are mean by making you brush your teeth, and make you do your chores. They know what you are going through, they have been there before. They will be mean sometimes, but that's because the have to. If you never listen to your parents you will not be ready for the real world.      Dear 10 year old, always be yourself. Don't change for anybody to be cool. You can be your own type of cool. As long as you have good friends then you are cool. Do not think since you make good grade you are a nerd, weird, and have no friends. If you aren't yourself, you are lying to yourself and your friends. So be yourself, and don't change for other people.

Dylan: Katrina and 9/11 Anna Katherine: This is Where it Ends pt. 2

Hurricane Katrina

On the morning August 29th, 2005, hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Louisiana. It was a category 5 in the Gulf of Mexico, but when it hit land it was category 3. The storm started in the Bahamas as a tropical storm on August 23rd. They had time to warn people to evacuate, however 20% of the population stayed. Mayor Ray Nagin declared that the Super-Dome would be a last resort shelter. Katrina claimed the lives of about 2,000 people. Also, the damage spread across 90,000 square miles.      Although I was only 2 years old I do remember some things from Hurricane Katrina. I had family that lived in New Orleans, and did not evacuate. It was my aunt and her husband. They're house got destroyed in the storm. So came to stay with us for 2 months. They never moved back to New Orleans. They eventually bought a house in Baton Rouge, and are still living here. Resource: http://www.history.com/topics/hurricane-katrina

The Underdogs

I'm reading  The Underdogs by Mike Lupica is a very good book, I recommend it to anybody that likes sports. It reminds me of Episcopal last year and modern day. The Underdogs  reminds me of Episcopal last year because episcopal had to rebuild, and bounce back from the flood. As in The Underdogs  the team has to bounce back from not having enough money to support the team.       The Underdogs  reminds me of modern because a girl is going to play on the team. That is relevant because there been a lot of protest about women rights. Back in the day girls would never have been able to play on a football team with al guys. Now they can and that is great.

Logan- Story in the Summer Week Two Dylan- Summer Story

My First Day of School

The first day of school was good day. It was my first day of high school coming from a different school. Although I was new i knew a lot of people, and were friends with them. The first day I drove up, and didn't know where to go. I was almost late for my first class. the next class I kind of knew where I was going. I love the rotating schedules.      By the time school was over I was so tired and ready to go home, and then I remembered I had football. At least it was the weekend, and I could sleep in the next day. all in all my first day of high school was a win. I know i will love it.

Free Read Book

In class and at home I have been reading The Underdogs by Mike Lupica , it is a very good book. It is about a football team that goes through some troubles. I'm only on chapter 3, but it is very good. To me this relates to the episcopal football last year. Although I was not here last year my brother told me all about it. Just like in The Underdogs  they are having to rebuild there team. Just like how the football team had to recover from the flood last year. Episcopal had to fight throw all the bad stuff like not having many practices, or not having a locker room. Thats why I like this book so much.

Landry- My Blog Austin- About Me

My Summer Time

I had a pretty eventful summer. The first week I went to Orange Beach with my friend. When I came home I had to start summer weights...that was not fun. And then July came around, and i was off to Montana/Canada with my brother and my aunt. I was waiting all summer to go to Glacier National Park.      I went to Glacier National Park, it was so beautiful. We went on hikes and saw spectacular waterfalls. One waterfall was so big the wind it made could knock you over. We went on one hike that was 5 miles long, and we thought it was 2 miles. All my brother wanted to see was a mountain goat. On the very last hike we saw 10 mountain goats. They are very majestic animals. I had an amazing summer with my family.

To Kill a Mockingbird

I really liked this book and really recommend it to you. I liked seeing Scout and Jem(the main characters) grow up in the 2 years that the book went over. I could really see them both mature from little kids to young adults. This book also taught me to never make my opinion off of other peoples opinions. I also learned I can't judge a person until I have seen life through there perspective. The book also told me to be my self.      This book had 2 different stories in it, one was a trial with a black man against a white man. The other part of the book was a mysterious neighbor named Boo Radly. Scout and Dill were best friends, and very curious about Boo Radly. They made there opinion off of other peoples opinions and thought he was a monster. When they met him he was a very nice guy. They soon knew that they will never make an opinion off of other peoples, and i learned not to either.
